About Douglas A. Hyman

Douglas A. Hyman founded the Hyman Law Group, PLLC in July 2011 after spending 20 years as the managing partner of a prominent medium-sized law firm in Birmingham, Michigan. Mr. Hyman has had a distinguished career representing corporate and individual clients in the areas of complex commercial litigation, family law, labor and employment law, equine law, real estate, shareholder disputes, and other general civil matters.

Mr. Hyman is known for his talents in negotiating and structuring business deals and settlements as well as for his aggressive advocacy and proactive attention to all of his cases. This unique skill set has allowed him to form long-lasting relationships with his clients, many of which span multiple generations. Mr. Hyman's results-driven and problem-solving attitude has earned him the reputation of being the "go-to guy" for any legal problem.

Mr. Hyman is also known for being one of the area's preeminent domestic relations attorneys, having represented clients in some of Michigan's most high-profile divorce cases. Mr. Hyman's counsel is sought by high-net-worth professionals and business owners because of his experience and ability to analyze complicated corporate structures, tax returns, financial statements, valuations, and retirement plans. Education & Academic Roles

Mr. Hyman received his BA from the University of Arizona and his JD, with distinction, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School. He is a frequent lecturer on the defense of housing discrimination cases and speaks to insurance companies in the areas of claim prevention, documentation, and resolution.

A Defender of Dogs & Horses

Mr. Hyman served as the chairman of the American Kennel Club Trial Board for over 12 years. During that time, he closed down puppy mills all over the country and enforced the rules of the American Kennel Club. He still represents Kennel Club employees in AKC matters as well as individuals who appeal disciplinary actions imposed by the AKC and individuals attempting to obtain judging privileges.

Mr. Hyman is also passionate about the horse industry. He offers representation in all areas of equine transactions, including syndications, breeding rights, purchase or sale of horses, boarding issues, and business planning and development.
